Using a Food Bank

Write headline

To use a Food Bank in the UK, frontline care professionals identify people in need. Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB and police identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food.

Some foodbanks also run a rural delivery service, which takes emergency foodboxes to clients living in rural areas who cannot afford to get to a foodbank.

Jobcentre Plus has been working with the Trussell Trust to pilot closer signposting and checking of potential entitlement for help from the Trust’s foodbank. The pilots have been running in Gloucester, Wiltshire and Swindon District since January 2011.
